Neopolitan Snow!

What do you get when you mix a beautiful delicate snowfall with a fuzzy fur hood coat? It's not a trick question, you get an extremely smiley and giggly Brittany! Those were two things on a list of wants that all came true at once! I've always complained about the snow. Funny thing is that there was none for awhile, and I kind of missed it! I kept thinking "Come on Michigan, just a dusting? For me?" I'm pretty sure I honestly only like it because it beautifies winter, but it finally snowed! My other wish come true? I've wanted a big green parka for as long as I can remember. Well maybe not that long. Let's just say I've wanted one since I began blogging, and saw every fashionista I follow blog an outfit in a cozy coat. So it's been about 2 years since I began my coat crush. I guess you could say I've been very picky in choosing the perfect parka! I wanted a pretty pine green, ties and pockets, and a faux fur hood that looked real. Which is a lot more difficult than it sounds! When I came across this one on DressLily, I immediately added it to my cart. One, because it fit all of my qualifications, and two, because the fur hood reminded me of neopolitan ice cream! Can't you see it with the pink, brown, and white? I personally like to compare things to my favorite foods... So if you want the frozen feels, and a bit of an ice cream craving, then head to DressLily for some neopolitan of your own ;)

VIPme At The Opera!

I've never considered myself "one for the theater." Imagine me saying saying that in an incredibly theatrical Shakespearean voice, and you'll get what I mean. Which is odd, because I adored being in Drama Club in Elementary school. I played the shoemaker's daughter in The Elves and the Shoemaker, a dwarf in Snow White, and even played the lead of Scrooge with beard and all in A Christmas Carol. Maybe I was scarred for life from the theater after growing up and realizing I played the part of a man half my childhood. Emily however got to play Cindy Lou Who in The Grinch, the fairy godmother in Jack and the Beanstalk, and Sandy in Grease. So needless to say, I think that's why I've never joined my sister in her love of the theater. Until now that is. When Emily asked for tickets to Phantom of the Opera for Christmas, I figured I'd give the theater one last try for one of our favorite movies. My new thoughts on it? I am now a theater geek. I was pleasantly surprised at how astounding the acting, singing, and dancing was, and couldn't get over the detail in their costumes, and props. I felt like I was on The Haunted Mansion ride in Disney when the chandelier began to shake, spark, and "burst into flames" above the audience. The least surprising part of the evening? That dressing for the occasion was my favorite part. I mean, I'll always be a fashionista above all!  When going to the theater, one must look sophisticated, refined, and polished. I saw many there who went as far as wearing floor-length gowns and tuxedos. I played it down, and wore a blue lace above the knee dress that was absolutely perfect in-between. Thanks to VIPme, I felt just like a VIP at the Detroit Opera House. You can feel luxurious too for your next special occasion! Just head to VIPme, and find a unique and quality piece at a reasonable price that's worthy of an actress ;)

RAINN Fashion Show Review!

Phew! I couldn't be happier to be over my fashion grief. I have to admit, RAINN On Common Ground was well worth the wait! The entire event could be described as an enchanting experience. Before entering the Rattlesnake Club, we were treated to a beautiful view of the sunset over the Detroit river. Inside, live mannequin models were strategically placed on blocks around the room, each showcasing stunning work. Tables on the outskirts presented pieces you could purchase right off the runway. The VIP row was lined with top-notch bloggers, stylists, and even Fox 2 News's style ambassador, Chuck Bennett. Not to mention the VIP bags filled to the brim with glorious goodies! The hosts, Ms. Michigan US Universal Sherlyn Fox, and Channel 4 News personality Jason Colthorp carried comical conversation and energized the crowd! They even managed to get the whole room to participate in the newest internet sensation, the mannequin challenge! Not going to lie, my right eye was twitching by the end of that. Hope that wasn't caught on camera xD The emcees Rat and Puff from Detroit's own 98.7 AMP Radio kept the jokes rolling, and even gave their best model struts! Unfortunately the models were the ones who really knocked it out of the park, sorry guys! Former and future pageant queens stole the show with intricate jewels and glittering crowns. Everything from chic lounge wear sporting Detroit pride by Detroit Rebels, to ruffled cropped blouses by June22 graced the white carpet. Not to mention some old favorites of mine, like the yellow raincoats by MPFashion, and bespoke leather bags by Beau Satchelle. With 14 designers displaying their work, the inspiration was endless on and off the catwalk! Being this was my first charity fashion show, it was heartwarming to hear representatives speak so passionately of their organizations. The proceeds went to benefit the RAINN, Common Ground, and Haven charities. Fabulous fashion, energetic emcees, hilarious hosts, and all for a caring cause? What more could this fashionista ask for? Thank you to Sherlyn Fox and Mila Pershyna for having us, and to the entire team for a lovely night!

Attend RAINN Fashion Show!

I hate when I realize after the fact that I missed a big fashion event! My first thought? I could have been having the time of my life! Second thought? Who didn't tell me this was happening? Third thought? I'm absolutely going next time! That's how I felt after missing RAINN Fashion Show last year. This year, I'll be covering the event this Saturday the 21st at the Rattlesnake Club Detroit! So here I am telling all my lovely readers, so no one experiences my three stages of fashion grief! For those who don't know, RAINN Fashion On Common Ground is a Charity Designer and Artisan Showcase and Trunk Show. The RAINN organization stands for Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, and fundraising also benefits Common Ground, and Haven charities. RAINN boasts almost 60 sponsors, some of which being big names. One of the most notable, is Detroit's 98.7 AMP Radio's Rat and Puff Show. This morning at 9am, designers and models were on air hanging out with the guys, giving away a pair of tickets to the show, a gift certificate to a spa, and a runway teaser on Facebook Live! The event will be hosted by the beautiful Ms. Michigan US Universal Sherlyn Fox, and Local 4 News personality Jason Colthorp. RAINN will feature talented artists like Mila Pershyna, designer behind the contemporary clothing line MP Fashion, and Latrice Delgado-Macon of The Styling Closet as head stylist. In addition to gourmet appetizers, you can enjoy exclusive specialty drinks dedicated and created specifically for the show. Want to hear the craziest part? That is all included with your ticket! So what are you still reading this for? Go get your ticket now, before it's too late ;)

Create Your Own Café!

I love a good morning routine. Wake up, shower, get dressed, makeup, hair, eat, tea, and be on my way! Sitting down for a warm cup of tea happens to be my favorite part of that routine. It's nice to take a few minutes to relax, breathe, clear your mind, and prepare yourself for a busy day. Everything after that just doesn't feel right until I've completed my morning with tea time. For Emily, sipping on a cup of coffee is the only thing that gets her going in the morning! I think that's the way it is for most people. Especially with a Starbucks on every corner, and cafés being such a hot social scene. Personally we enjoy these moments together, in the peace and quiet of our home. So why not bring the café scene to us? We like to do this by collecting the prettiest mugs we can find. I enjoy inspirational mugs that put a little pep in my step, and sunshine in my soul. Emily hopes to collect mugs from everywhere we travel, as a souvenir to remind us of beautiful destinations. So when we saw the selection of unique mugs at On The Bay Customs, we looked at each other with that all too familiar face of "We need these!" With motivational sayings, nautical vibes, and Michigan destinations, they'll fit perfectly into our set! So create your own café with the cutest mugs around at On The Bay Customs!

North American International Auto Show With SheBuysCars!

I like to consider myself a woman of many different interests. Fashion, food, photography, travel, excercise, etc. But never have I had an interest in cars. Yes, I have always admired a nice looking car, but have never understood the mechanics of it. Embarrassingly enough, even the difference in brands or types has always confused me. This is especially funny coming from the daughter of a car enthusiast, whose prized possession is a yellow '69 Chevelle. Even so, I've never posted a blog about a car in my entire life. So when SheBuysCars reached out to me on covering the North American International Auto Show preview week, I was a tad puzzled. Turns out that "SheBuysCars is designed to empower women as owners and buyers of cars, to help women to become more thoughtful about their cars and their purchase choices, and to foster a closer relationship between auto manufacturers and their female customers." Since this was not my area of expertise, I figured some help in the car department wouldn't hurt! So for three days Emily and I dove into the auto industry, fully touring the auto show floor, speaking with CEOs, CCOs, and CMOs of major auto companies, taking notes in press conferences, attending release parties, and eating private lunch in executive suites. We attended the Disney/Pixar press conference, where the creator of Cars spoke passionately of the upcoming Cars 3, and how the NAIAS was his inspiration for Cars 1. We interacted in the Steel Matters conference, and learned that steel is the greenest material to date being it is recyclable, and has the lowest greenhouse gas emissions in production. Not to mention, it's lightweight, durable, strong, and less costly than aluminum! We sat in the Google press conference concerning Waymo, their first autonomous car. For those who don't know, this is a fully self driving car, that happens to be the most popular development in the auto industry this year. For those who do speak car, look for hands-free smart trunks, cameras that provide a 360° view of the car, Hybrid Electric Vehicles that seamlessly change between gas and electric in order to get the best mileage, and cars you can control from your smartphone or Amazon Alexa. I fell in love with the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and Acura MDX, while Emily drooled over the Genesis G80 Sport, and every sports car she passed! We had a beautiful private lunch in an executive suite with Hyundai, admired the pieces at the Museum of Modern Art Detroit at the release party for GMC, and lounged and conversed at a candlelit party for Chrysler in the penthouse of the Chrysler building. Not only was covering the NAIAS an exhilarating experience, but it was also a learning experience. Thank you to Scotty Reiss, Mary Moore, and Karyn Locke of SheBuysCars for having Emily and I. We thouroughly enjoyed ourselves, and loved meeting you lovely ladies, and the fellow bloggers of our group. Now I can consider myself a fashionable woman with knowledge and an interest in cars ;) I hope everyone attending the NAIAS this weekend has an amazing time, and for those who don't plan on attending, enter to win tickets for the ride of your life ;D
