Maryland Recap/ USNA Graduation!

I spent this past week in Maryland with my closest friends to celebrate our friend Luke's birthday, and graduation from the US Naval Academy. Three years ago I went to Maryland with the "squad" to visit, and last year I flew out to attend the US Naval Ring Dance with him. Even being my third time visiting, there were still so many things to see and do! We made our way back to Washington DC to tour the Smithsonian museums, and revisit the various monuments. First stop was the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. This expansive building holds every fossil, geode, insect, and animal you never knew existed, along with a beautiful display of world renowned nature photography. Second stop was the Smithsonian Museum of American History. There, you are able to view the original flag that inspired the "Star Spangled Banner", along with displays of the different wars and major events in US history. We then made our rounds to all the major monuments, like the Washington monument, Reflecting pool, and Lincoln Memorial. That night we hit up a Washington Nationals baseball game. The stadium was impressive, along with the screams from the Mets fans we accidentally sat with...whoops! The next day, we traveled to the National Zoo, where I was able to witness giant pandas, which exist in a select few other Zoos in the United States! We then went to downtown Annapolis for ice cream cones, and souvenir shopping (my favorite part) ;D On day three, we watched the USNA Color Parade to support Luke! Afterwards, we had a delicious celebratory dinner at Primo Pasta Kitchen. Our last full day was the big day, graduation! After a fly-over from the Blue Angels, and some monotonous speeches, the caps went flying, and everyone was able to congratulate the graduates! We spent that night at the sponsor's house, having a BBQ, enjoying the sunset off the docks, and singing along with our musically talented friends. Maryland road trips may be over, but the memories will always last. I'm so thankful for the laughs, smiles, and love of my friends this past week. "How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."

Walk Fashion Show at Eastern Market!

Yesterday was the first Walk Fashion Show of the year, held at the Eastern Market in Detroit. Being my first time at the Eastern Market, I was impressed at how large, open, and well lit it was, making it a perfect venue for this show. Local vendors, liquor counters, and a food stand, lined the outskirts of the building. A large white runway sat in the middle, and a giant screen with projected images acted as the stage backing. White chairs closest to the stage were reserved for VIP, and rows upon rows of general seating followed behind. The producers, Daishawn and Crystal, kindly thanked everyone for their attendance and participation. They explained how Walk Detroit was meant for the hopeful designers, models, makeup artists, hair stylists, photographers, and bloggers of Detroit. The first section of the show was the Children's Showcase. Adorable little models-in-training strutted their stuff, and others shyly made their way to the end of the runway, struck a pose, and hurriedly ran back. Some of the fashions were that of a mini adult's style, and some felt like I was watching Detroit's own Toddlers in Tiaras special. The second section, was the Emerging Designers Showcase. The fashions were that of very new designers, and varied from sportwear, swimwear, ready-to-wear, etc. There was a large break between the second and third show, which was the Independent Designers Showcase, meant to start at 7:00. Between this time, the majority of the bloggers and it-listers arrived to grab a drink, take a bite, and mingle in the VIP-only section. I personally enjoyed sitting on the comfy white leather couches, tasting tiny lemon cupcakes, and gossiping with friends. Unfortunately it had been a long day, and we called it quits before the start of the third show at 9:00. Judging from my experience at lasts year's show though, I'm sure the Independent Showcase was inspiring! Walk Fashion Show acts as endless opportunities to fashion hopefuls, and a fun day out to those who admire the fashion scene! Thank you to Daishawn, Crystal, and the entire Walk family for having us at the show!

Peanut Butter Banana Oat Bars!

Peanut butter. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! Boy do I love an excuse to use it on everything and anything. So when I came across a recipe titled "Peanut Butter Banana Oat Bars", I dropped everything to grab a jar and start whipping some up! It was incredibly easy to make, and only required four ingredients:
3 cups of oatmeal or rolled oats
2 chopped bananas
1 cup of peanut butter
1/2 cup of honey
Simple and healthy? Count me in! I had wanted a dish to bring to a Mother's Day brunch with Austin's family, and these bars were a hit! When it comes to brunch, tasty little finger foods are the perfect appetizer. I guarantee these bars will be gone before the tea is served!
Instructions:
1. Line a 9x9 inch pan with foil, and coat with coconut oil.
2. Combine honey and peanut butter in a pot, and heat on stove until smooth.
3. Fold in oats and bananas until mixture begins to stick together.
4. Spread mixture evenly in lined pan, and press until firm.
5. Place in refrigerator until hardened, then remove, slice, and enjoy!

*Just to point out some things. I chose to use a pot on the stove, because I believe it is better for you than to use the microwave. A microwave is known to reduce the nutritional value of your food. I also used an all-natural coconut oil instead of a non-stick spray that contains chemicals like Diacetyl, Dimemythlpolysiloxane, Propellants, and GMOs!*
