Neopolitan Snow!

What do you get when you mix a beautiful delicate snowfall with a fuzzy fur hood coat? It's not a trick question, you get an extremely smiley and giggly Brittany! Those were two things on a list of wants that all came true at once! I've always complained about the snow. Funny thing is that there was none for awhile, and I kind of missed it! I kept thinking "Come on Michigan, just a dusting? For me?" I'm pretty sure I honestly only like it because it beautifies winter, but it finally snowed! My other wish come true? I've wanted a big green parka for as long as I can remember. Well maybe not that long. Let's just say I've wanted one since I began blogging, and saw every fashionista I follow blog an outfit in a cozy coat. So it's been about 2 years since I began my coat crush. I guess you could say I've been very picky in choosing the perfect parka! I wanted a pretty pine green, ties and pockets, and a faux fur hood that looked real. Which is a lot more difficult than it sounds! When I came across this one on DressLily, I immediately added it to my cart. One, because it fit all of my qualifications, and two, because the fur hood reminded me of neopolitan ice cream! Can't you see it with the pink, brown, and white? VIPme At The Opera!

I've never considered myself "one for the theater." Imagine me saying saying that in an incredibly theatrical Shakespearean voice, and you'll get what I mean. Which is odd, because I adored being in Drama Club in Elementary school. I played the shoemaker's daughter in The Elves and the Shoemaker, a dwarf in Snow White, and even played the lead of Scrooge with beard and all in A Christmas Carol. Maybe I was scarred for life from the theater after growing up and realizing I played the part of a man half my childhood. Emily however got to play Cindy Lou Who in The Grinch, the fairy godmother in Jack and the Beanstalk, and Sandy in Grease. So needless to say, I think that's why I've never joined my sister in her love of the theater. Until now that is. When Emily asked for tickets to Phantom of the Opera for Christmas, I figured I'd give the theater one last try for one of our favorite movies. My new thoughts on it? I am now a theater geek. I was pleasantly surprised at how astounding the acting, singing, and dancing was, and couldn't get over the detail in their costumes, and props. I felt like I was on The Haunted Mansion ride in Disney when the chandelier began to shake, spark, and "burst into flames" above the audience. The least surprising part of the evening? That dressing for the occasion was my favorite part. I mean, I'll always be a fashionista above all!  When going to the theater, one must look sophisticated, refined, and polished. I saw many there who went as far as wearing floor-length gowns and tuxedos. I played it down, and wore a blue lace above the knee dress that was absolutely perfect in-between. RAINN Fashion Show Review!

Phew! I couldn't be happier to be over my fashion grief. I have to admit, RAINN On Common Ground was well worth the wait! The entire event could be described as an enchanting experience. Before entering the Rattlesnake Club, we were treated to a beautiful view of the sunset over the Detroit river. Inside, live mannequin models were strategically placed on blocks around the room, each showcasing stunning work. Tables on the outskirts presented pieces you could purchase right off the runway. The VIP row was lined with top-notch bloggers, stylists, and even Fox 2 News's style ambassador, Chuck Bennett. Not to mention the VIP bags filled to the brim with glorious goodies! The hosts, Ms. Michigan US Universal Sherlyn Fox, and Channel 4 News personality Jason Colthorp carried comical conversation and energized the crowd! They even managed to get the whole room to participate in the newest internet sensation, the mannequin challenge! Not going to lie, my right eye was twitching by the end of that. Hope that wasn't caught on camera xD The emcees Rat and Puff from Detroit's own 98.7 AMP Radio kept the jokes rolling, and even gave their best model struts! Unfortunately the models were the ones who really knocked it out of the park, sorry guys! Former and future pageant queens stole the show with intricate jewels and glittering crowns. Everything from chic lounge wear sporting Detroit pride by Detroit Rebels, to ruffled cropped blouses by June22 graced the white carpet. Not to mention some old favorites of mine, like the yellow raincoats by MPFashion, and bespoke leather bags by Beau Satchelle. With 14 designers displaying their work, the inspiration was endless on and off the catwalk! Being this was my first charity fashion show, it was heartwarming to hear representatives speak so passionately of their organizations. The proceeds went to benefit the RAINN, Common Ground, and Haven charities. Fabulous fashion, energetic emcees, hilarious hosts, and all for a caring cause? What more could this fashionista ask for? Thank you to Sherlyn Fox and Mila Pershyna for having us, and to the entire team for a lovely night!
