Michigan Road Trip: Lexington!

Lexington Michigan holds a very special place in my heart. For one week of August this was the place I called home every summer for years. Even if it was with 200 other band kids, living infamous "this one time at band camp" stories ;) I remember buses of friends stopping at the Birchwood Mall for lunch. Racing to the beach on break, and letting the waves of Lake Huron crash over our heads. Cool foggy mornings, and warm nights under falling stars. Everyone hitting up A&W for coney's and rootbeer floats with their families on pick up day. Strolling downtown Lexington's streets, and exploring the shops before heading home. Last year was Emily's last year of band camp, so we wanted to take a little trip down memory lane. This time didn't involve any marching, but plenty of new fond memories. We began by shopping in and out of every little shop. Then went on to walking out to the pier, and basking in the beautiful view. We then spent the golden hour swimming, and searching for sea glass. For dinner, we went to the Sweetwater Gourment Deli and Bakery for hummus wraps. Lastly, we had to take a pit stop for ice cream at The Pepperoni Cow. Lexington is a small town, perfect for a day of simple enjoyment, rest, and relaxation. A lovely second day of our great Michigan road trip!

Michigan Road Trip: Frankenmuth!

Upon asking my sister what she wanted for graduation, she told me she wanted to travel. Of course I was pretty pleased with this reponse, seeing as I proudly passed my travel bug on to her! Orginally we planned on going out of state, or to the tip of Michigan. Instead, we decided to travel to all the local places that we had been wanting to see. So we compiled our travel list, and went on our way! Our first stop was Frankenmuth, Michigan. Known as "Michigan's Little Bavaria", Frankenmuth is home to fantastic festivals, delicious dining, eclectic shopping, indoor waterparks, horse drawn carriages, and historical beauty and culture. It's a slice of Germany that's a perfect departure from the ordinary every day. We took some close friends, and explored everything Frankenmuth had to offer. First off, they have shopping as far as the eye can see. We ended up finding my new favorite little shop, Those Nature People Herb Haus. There, they sold everything from crystals, candles, incense, and essential oils. Just a few of my favorite things ;) When it comes to food, Frankenmuth is known for its famous family style chicken dinners, which are served at your choice between the Bavarian Inn or Zehnder's. If it's your first time to Frankenmuth, I'd definitely say to try the chicken dinner! We went against the grain by trying something new, and ate at La Crepe Du Jour. There, I had an amazing chicken alfredo crepe, and a raspberry truffle latte! After dinner, Emily wanted to climb the hill behind the Beer Brewery, and ended up discovering a place to jump rocks and make your way to the middle of the river. It took a little convincing, but eventually everyone made their way to the river for a fun adventure! Our day soon came to an end, and we parted our ways after a successful first day of our great Michigan road trip!

Have you ever discovered someplace, and wondered why you hadn't been there before? Like how could I have missed something so close to home for so long? That's how I felt upon arrival at the Detroit Riverwalk. A beautiful riverside path, complete with park, lighthouse, and all. I had the pleasure of finding this gem by suggestion of local photographer, Ashley Ariela. We connected for a photoshoot, and chose to meet at this location. We chatted about her longtime hobby turning into her really going for photography. And after 10 years of experience, she's gotten quite spectacular! With background in weddings, families, children, senior photos, and models, she's covered quite a range. She was sweet, and gave great guidance as to how I could help her achieve her portrait vision. She also gave my sister and usual photographer, Emily, great insight into furthering her skills. We moved from place to place, capturing different angles and scenery to really tell a great story. One of a lovely leisurely walk on the water, that lead to strolling the streets of Detroit.
